About...
A photographic print, especially an old one, has a story. It brings up questions. First and foremost, who is the person in the photo? After moving past the "who" in the image, the photograph next begs the questions of where it was taken; why?; what were the circumstances?; when was it taken?
When I see a photo I can’t help but ask these questions, to wonder at the circumstances, the personalities, the clothing, the setting. To imagine the place and the time. And, were the people really so much different from the present? Not as different as we tend to think, I suspect. People with ideals, political views, personal concerns, feelings and emotions. They laughed and cried, were angered, remorseful, jubilant, or sad.
The photographs which come my way for repair bring these thoughts to mind. Especially when someone sends me an original. I can hold it and feel the paper and smell the scent of antiquity. Further, it has the added mystique of where it has been all these years; perhaps neglected in an attic, or lovingly kept inside a back section of a wallet, or in the dressing drawer of one who has now passed. And now, it is here, with me . . .
I’d like to welcome you to Pixels in Time. I am an artist, photographer, writer, woodworker, quiltmaker, historian, genealogist, Jill of all Trades, and master of a few, including photography darkroom processes, Photoshop, and digital graphics and texturing.
This task which I have set for myself, the restoration of damaged and fading photographs, and the preservation of the memories within, is for me a personal process; a journey, a story, a mystery, a puzzle. I have a strong passion and longstanding interest in the preservation of historical documents, photography, and other artifacts, and I will endeavor to treat any photo which you send to me with the extreme care befitting any cherished relic of time.
All photo restorations are performed by me. I give the photos to no one else. My goal is to offer this personalized service at a reasonable cost, and to help my clients recover faded heirlooms and memories of times past.
Please feel free to browse through this site, offer comments or suggestions, or ask questions. I especially enjoy hearing from my clients, information and history and stories about the photograph they’ve submitted for restoration.
